Jasmine Kelly

For my Major Design Project, I made an educational textile - art dress out of single use waste materials. My project aims to educate about the significant negative impact single use waste has on the environment. In my project I used the single use item of a street banner commonly hung on a town lightpost, to make the skirt of my dress. For the bodice, I used strips of single-use waste plastic bags and weaved them with soda ring pulls off of aluminium cans. I also used coffee pods to make flowers for the straps and made a plastic rope out of a plastic bottle to lace up the back of the bodice. As a whole, my dress, as well as additional informational posters with QR codes. My aim was to educate about common single use waste, the impact of single use waste on the environment and animals, the importance of recycling and the need to find alternatives.
