DRAMA - Year 9

Our Year in Year 9 Drama

MISA Drama PIP Day

On Wednesday, 14 October, the Drama classes from Years 9-12 all joined together for a day full of fun. The day started off with getting out of our comfort zones, splitting everyone up into groups to connect with people we didn't know whilst having fun playing a game of charades. As the day progressed we developed skills for character building, storytelling and playbuilding through the various workshops we completed. - Sarah

National Simultaneous Storytime

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year, a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

In Term 2, we were assigned roles to create a short play inspired by the book

Whitney and Britney - Chicken Divas. Due to COVID-19, we had to record our play and it was displayed in the Auditorium for T-2. We had around six weeks to make our play about the Chicken Divas. The roles we were assigned were:

  • Whitney - Charlotte

  • Britney - Bree

  • Von Do the Fox - Agnes

  • Crocodile - Keria

  • Party Guard - Toby

  • Other Animals - Bri, Erin, Cheyanne, Tallan

We had a lot of fun designing and coming up with different ideas for our play. We are very happy the kids like it

Stories In The Dark

In Term 1 we studied Stanislavski’s “Method” approach to actor training and the theatrical style of Realism. Stanislavski applied a scientific approach to acting, constantly experimenting with his work. The system he created taught actors how to use skill, discipline, and willpower to achieve a realistic performance. Realism allows us to create a believable and realistic performance for the audience while the performer utilizes Stanislavski’s techniques.

Stanislavski, Realism and Verbatim

In Term 1 we studied Stanislavski’s “Method” approach to actor training and the theatrical style of Realism. Stanislavski applied a scientific approach to acting, constantly experimenting with his work. The system he created taught actors how to use skill, discipline, and willpower to achieve a realistic performance. Realism allows us to create a believable and realistic performance for the audience while the performer utilizes Stanislavski’s techniques.

Verbatim theater is a performance which is developed from the words of someone who has been interviewed. For our Year 9 Drama class, we all interviewed a person in our family. Recording their exact words, we each then developed a performance from them.

Film Genres

Bree - My short film was about action, adventure and western. I made the film about a missing pony being trapped by wolves and a girl and her horse coming to rescue the pony and save the day.

Charlotte - During online learning, we were given the task to create a short film based on the genres that were given to us during class. I decided to go on an adventure and I created a short film about my dog Tack and I going on an adventure. I filmed it around my house and yard and i definitely had to have patiences with Tack but we got there in the end

Erin - In Drama for my second assignment I was tasked with creating a genre based short film/scene from a film. To complete my task, I chose the genre of horror/thriller. My story featured two characters, and was filmed in the late hours of the day with planned scenes and shots. Considering that I didn’t have much to work with I did like the final result of my film. My film is about a warning and a bad decision not to follow that warning resulting in an overall loss.

Izzy - When I was given the assessment to make a short film I knew I wanted to create a cinematic documentary type film showcasing the beautiful land and why we love to be farmers. I also wanted to share what our experience was during the  COVID lockdown.
