MUSIC - Year 7
Students in Year 7 studied Basic Elements of Music, Instruments and Rock Music this year. They studied the fundamentals of sound including pitch, rhythm, tempo and timbre or what the quality of the sound is. The students learnt to read basic notation and apply this in a short melodic composition using software called Musescore, of which each student had downloaded to their device. They then examined the instruments common to the orchestra including Percussion, Woodwind, Brass and Strings, as well as the Saxophone and Piano, looking inside one of our upright pianos at the mechanisms and the way the sound is produced. Students also then studied features of a typical rock song, including the instruments used and what makes rock music sound like 'rock music'. The students enjoyed attempting to use a variety of instruments this year including keyboard, drums, guitar and ukelele.
