Dance Company

This year Dance Company has become an elite group that consists of students from Year 7 through to Year 11. Students have worked on multiple movement combinations differing in styles; particularly with a focus on Lyrical, Contemporary and Jazz. In Semester 1, students were working on a medley with an emphasis on group unison and patterning. This then led to the creation of our first performance item 'The Climb', which was used for Term 2's Senior Formal Assembly. The students were also working on specific movement phrases at this time, for a collective project with College Cheer called 'Eye of the Tiger' presented for Dr Quarmby's retirement. By Semester 2, we changed up our rehearsal routine in consideration for COVID safety and this meant that we ran bi-weekly classes in the studio for Stage 4 and Stage 5, with additional zoom lessons. This provided an opportunity for a in-depth focus on dance technique for smaller groups of students and we saw some big improvements in turns, jumps and tricks. Our latest routine 'I'm Still Standing' saw some excellent collaboration between students and with Miss Valente to create something light-hearted and fun to lift people's spirits after a difficult year. All of our projects this year have been constructed through Dance Film which has been a great experience for our dancers and helped them shine.
