The College Band have strived for their best this year, despite the challenging circumstances. We had a lot planned as a Band. Preparations begun early in Term 1 with marching practice for the Thirlmere Festival of Steam parade. This was later postponed and then cancelled. ANZAC Day March was also cancelled so the Band did not march in 2020. The Band were also preparing as a massed group for the Performance Showcase Night, but not far into the preparations of our major pieces that were quite difficult and challenging, the restrictions were tightened and we were forced to abandon weekly rehearsals as one large group and all wind instruments (brass and woodwind) were not allowed to be played. Instead, we adopted the 'bucket drumming' challenge and began rehearsing bi-weekly, looking a drumline music and bucket drumming resources. This was a load of fun! When the restrictions eased, wind instruments returned with social distancing requirements and the three groups (7/8, 9/10 and 12) were able to record something small for our website. Congratulations to Madeline Levings (Year 7) and Ethan Schultz (Year 12) on receiving their Bar Badge for 2020, demonstrating commitment to the ensemble and to Samantha Cefai of Year 12, receiving her Circular Badge recognising 5 years of commitment to the College Band.
